Backward Classes Welfare Department has been in effect with effect from 16.03.1994 in order to focus attention on the welfare of Backward classes in the state.

Hostels For BC Prematric Students

There are 47 hostels functioning for the educational upliftment of backward classes who are studying from 3rd class to 10th class. Out of which 12 hostels are exclusively for girls. The sanctioned strength of the hostel boarders is 5020in all. The students whose parent's annual income does not exceed Rs.18,000/- p.a., are eligible for admission into hostels. The boarders are being provided the following facilities free of cost.
•  Boarding charges @ Rs.270/- per month to each boarder from 3rd class to 7th class and    Rs.330/- per month to each boarder from 8th class to 10th class for a duration of 10    months in an academic year.
•  Two pairs of dress every year.
•  Bedding material once in 2 years.
•  Note books.
•  Nationalised text books
•  Study material.
•  To achieve better result in public examinations of X class, the boarders are being     provided special coaching in the subjects of maths, science, hindi and English by     drafting services of good teachers on payment of Rs.500/- per month per tutor.

Hostel Buildings:
 
31 hostels are functioning in Government buildings and the remaining 16 hostels located

in private buildings.

 
Prematric Scholarships:
 

Nationalised Text Books are supplied to all the eligible pre-matric students from VI to X classes in lieu of scholarships. The education department supplies nationalized text books free of cost to all students from I to V classes and to BC students from VI to X classes on payment by the BCwelfare Department.

 
Post-matric Scholarships:
 
Post matric scholarships are being sanctioned to BC students whose parents/guardians annual income does not exceed Rs.33,500/- for general courses and Rs.44,500/- for professional courses.The following are the prescribed for sanction of scholarships.
