Pokala Dammakka, who plays a significant role in this Kshetra comes from a humble family and was an inhabitant of Bhadrireddipalem, a mile away from this place. She was childless and adopted a son, naming him Rama as she was adrent devotee of Lord Rama. She used to collect roots, fruits and flowers in the forest, preaching and practicing devotation by chanting Ramanama in the village. One day it so happened that she could not find her son even though it was evening. In her anxiety, she called her son Rama, many a time wandering hither and thither, in the forest, strangely, she heard the voice of her son after some time and she followed the voice which lead her to anthill where the diety of Lord Rama, Seetha and Lakshmana were hidden. She peeped into the anthill and saw the diety of Lord Rama, Seetha and Lakshmana. When she got back her consciousness she found her son Rama seated by her side. She was dissuaded by the villagers from digging the anthill, she poured posts and roots of Godavari water on the anthill, which slowly revealed the deities inside.
