But the Tanisha, instead of ratifying the action taken by Gopanna, put him in jail for spending the Government money without authority.
Gopanna suffered silently in the name of Lord Rama all torture and humilliation at the hands of the Tanisha for a period of Twelve years. During this period he poured forth Dasarathi Sathagam, a book of hundred poems, in praise of Lord Rama, and the book stands as a monumental work depicting implicit faith in the Lord having failed in his attempt to avoke any response and aid from Lord Rama even after a long time, he implored for mother Seetha's mercy. At last Rama and his brother Lakshmana, disguised as representatives sent by Gopanna to pay the dues to the Tanisha appeared before the Tanisha one night, the Tanisha was astonished to find the huge amount paid by the two divine persons and he readily gave the receipts for the amount to the strangers. The receipt was placed under Gopanna's pillow by Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana.
The Tanisha, waking up early in the morning, recalled his experience in the night and realised that he saw the Lord himself and made arrangements for the release of Sri Gopanna from the jail and asked for forgiveness. He also placed all the amounts received by him, the previous night from the Lord at Gopanna's feet. But Gopanna refused to accept the amount from the Tanisha. He kept only two Gold Mohurs as a mark of divine significance.
Having been moved by the divine appearance in his vision, the Tanisha, gave huge amounts and large areas of and for the construction and maintenance of Rama's temple at Bhadrachalam. From that time, Sri Gopanna became known as Bhakta Ramadas.
Thus Ramadas played a nucleus part in the history of this Kshetra. It also signifies that the lord comes to the rescue of this devotees at the right time and fulfils. His ways in many ways. Strange are the ways. Strange are the ways of God.
