Disposal of fishery wealth

In Khammam district there are 294 minor irrigation and (1) reservoir existing under the control of Fisheries department which are having ayacut of more than 100 acres. These tanks are being leased to the concerned Fishermen Coop. Societies/Gram Panchayats as per GOMs.No.776 (Fish-II) Dept, dt.31.12.1990. These tanks are given to FCS/GPs on nominal rentals. The lease period is from July to June. As per GOMs.No.340, AH DD & F (Fish-II) Department, dt.4.9.2003 the Govt. accorded permission to extend lease period of tanks/reservoirs vested with fisheries department for a period of 5 years. Disposal of tanks is under progress. For 1414 fasli 140 tanks are leased out in favour of FCS and collected an amount of Rs.9,12,810/-.

Fish seed production and distribution

2 Fish seed farms are existing under the control of this department. These farms are existing at Wyra and Kinnerasani project. These are producing fish seed and supply to the concerned FCS/GP tanks on Govt. rates. The farms are producing major carp and Cy.Carpio fish seed. The extent of fish seed farm, Wyra and Kinnerasani project is 2.95 and 14.82 acres respectively. At Fishseedfarms Wyra 38 and in Kinnerasani Project 22 nurseries are existing, besides (10) katcha ponds at kinnerasani project.These 2 Govt farms are meeting only 50 lakhs fish seed demand in the district , as against the total demand of 450 lakhs.

Implementation of licensing Scheme

Licensing system is being implemented in Godavari river and Palair reservoir. Licenses are being issued to the fishermen by collection prescribed license fee. During 2004-2005, (812) licenses were issued against the target of (600) and collected Rs 2,27,060/- towards license fee.

Organisation of fishermen co-operative societies

The Fishermen Co-Op. Societies are being organized based on the water sources available with the identified Fishermen,who quality skill and technical test conducted by the department.Priority is being given to the SC, ST, BC and others for the welfare of poor fishermen, who are depending on fishing for their livelihood.Besides this the department is also organising fisherwomen Co-operative Societies for vending od both wet and dry fish.
