WELFARE SCHEMES

The department is providing loans to the fishermen, through financing agencies, i.e., National Cooperation Development Corporation (NCDC), SC corporation, BC corporation and also through banks for working capital and purchase of assets like nylon-nets, boats cycles etc.

• Group Accidental Insurance Schemes: Under this scheme, Rs: 50,000/- is being sanctioned to the legal hairs of the fishermen family, who dies while fishing, without paying any premum by fishermen.
• Housing programme: As per the survey made, the district requires, 2,700 pacca houses under fishermen housing programme. Every year, houses are being sanctioned by the Govt. in spells. The present unit cost is Rs: 25,000/-.

• Scheduled Caste special component schemes: Under this scheme, every year, more than (40) SC fishermen are being assisted with 50% subsidy for the purchase of crafts, tackle, fish seed and other fishing implements & inputs.

• Supply of ice boxes to fisherwomen: Department is supplying ice boxes to fisher women vendors on 75% subsidy, through APCOF/ NCDC to store fish/prawn.

• Sanction of revolving fund to fisherwomen co-operative societies: The Department is sanctioning revolving fund to Fisherwomen of Fisherwomen Co-operative societies @ Rs: 1,000/- per head to take up fish business.

• Supply of fresh water prawn seed (scampi) : Department is supplying fresh water prawn(scampi) on subsidy to selected tanks to promote scampi culture
