AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
The main functional role of Roads and Buildings Department is
the construction and maintenance of public Roads and Govt. Buildings.
The functions, responsibilities and operations of Roads and Buildings
are defined under the Andhra pradesh Public Works Code, 1976 and
the subsequent amendments to the code. With respect to the Roads,
Roads and Buildings is responsible for the construction and maintenance
of the State Principal Road Network including National highways(on
behalf of Govt. of India), State Highways and Major District Roads.
The roads and Buildings is also vested with the responsibility
for construction and Maintenance of public works for Government
Departments. Government Departments requiring a new building approach
the R&B and after obtaining the plans and estimates, obtain
sanction of the Scheme through its administrative department in
Government. The work is executed by the R&B subject to availability
of funds in the budget and after completion of the construction
continues to maintain the building irrespective of the occupying
department.
To manage the works taken up with the financial assistance of
the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, a new
wing , NABARD came into existence in the year 1997. This wing
is headed by a Chief Engineer. With the financial assistance of
the World Bank, works are taken up under Andhra Pradesh State
Highways project, headed by the Engineer-in-Chief (R&B) A&EAP.
Funds were raised through public contributions for the development
of Roads in the State. The financial affairs and works programmes
are controlled by the A.P. Road Development Corporation, of which
the Engineer-in-Chief (R&B) (A&EAP) is the Managing Director.
The works taken up with these funds are executed under the control
of the Engineer-in-Chief (R&B) Roads. |
