INTRODUCTION
Ground Water Department was established in the year 1985. It was
upgraded as a district office headed by Deputy Director. The Department
is closely associated with various developmental activities taken
up by the district administration. Main goal of the ground water
department is scientific development, systematic management and
optimal monitoring of ground water resources for sustainability.
In order to achieve the above goals, the
following main objectives were enshrined… |
-
Estimation of ground water resources in
the district for according clearances to minor irrigation
schemes to various financial institutions and developmental
agencies.
-
Detailed investigations for delineation
of potential zones in various geological formations.
-
Integrated hydro geological and geophysical
investigations for selection of various types of well
sites to be implemented by various developmental agencies
viz., SC societies, DRDA, BC Corporation, ITDA and
private individuals under customer services.
-
Hydro-geological and hydrological investigations
for selection of artificial recharge structures and
water harvesting structures.
-
Drilling of exploratory-cum-production
bore well/tube well, in order to study the litho logy
and aquifer parameters.
-
Monitoring of groundwater levels and quality
through a net work of observation wells and piezometers
fitted with automatic water level recorder.
-
Ground water basin studies for estimation
of ground water resources.
-
Specialised scientific studies viz., aerial
photo and satellite imagery interpretations, evaluation
of watersheds for improving the quantity and quality
of groundwater.

STATUS
OF GROUND WATER
Khammam District is divided in (70) assessment unite
(Sub-basins) with defined Hydrogeological boundaries. The computation
of ground water draft and recharge are dependent on village level
statistical information collected from various resources. Computations
of net ground water availabilities, its utilization and availability
for future use in all assessment units i.e., (Sub-basins) for
command and non-command areas have been made separately duly following
the methodology recommended by Ground Water estimation committee
2007. (Status
of Ground Water development) The total net annual ground water
availability, current annual ground water draft. Demand and allocation
for domestic and industrial needs and availabilities for future
irrigation in command, non command areas for the district as a
whole are given. |
