ORIGIN


Transport facility by buses was started in Khammam way back in 1936 when a bus depot was commissioned at Khammam town by “Nizam State Railway and Road Transport Department” (NSRRTD). Later basing on the need to further increase the transport facilities in the jurisdiction, a depot was commissioned at Kothagudem in the year 1946. As per the provisions of the Road Transport Corporation Act, 1942 of the Indian Constitution, ‘ ANDHRA PRADESH STATE ROAD TRANSPORT CORPORATION” came into existence in the year 1958 with a view to provide adequate, efficient, economical and properly coordinated transport service to the public.

As year passed by, depots have come at Bhadrachalam in the year 1981 in order to provide better transport to the surrounding tribal area population and also to the pilgrims visiting Sri Seetha Rama Chandra Swamy Devasthanam at Bhadrachalam. On 26.6.1982 a separate division was formed at Khammam bifurcating the then Warangal Division with 3 depots viz., Khammam, Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam with a fleet strength of 178 buses covering a mileage of 50,000 Kms., per day. Later on with the increase in the demand of the traveling public, depots have been setup at Sathupalli in the year 1983, Madhira in the year 1987 and Manuguru during the month of November, 1993.

INCEPTION

In the year 1994, the Corporation has undergone reorganized. As a part of reorganization, Zonal set up was introduced and Khammam district has become a ‘REGION’ w.e.f. 18.11.1994 with its head quarters at Khammam. This region now comprises of six depots at Khammam, Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam, Sathupalli, Madhira and Manuguru.

OPERATIONS

At present Khammam region is having 431+25 (hire) schedules at all the six depots holding 465+25 (hire) buses, operating an average, 1,77,000 Kms a day on 195 different routes, earning Rs.17.63 Lakhs at the rate of Rs.9.96 with an occupancy rate of 51 and a vehicle utilization of 362 Kms., transporting 2,00,500 passengers to various destinations in the state.

SERVICES

The depots of Khammam region are operating special type services such as Hi-tech, Luxury and Express services from all the important towns to various places and from Bhadrachalam to important pilgrim centers like Tirupathi, Sreesailam, Basar and Vemulawada.

INTER STATE SERVICES

Bhadrachalam depot is operation two express services from Bhadrachalam to Jeypore and two more express services to Koraput of Orissa state to provide transportation facility in between the important places of neighbouring states. Added to this inter regional ordinary services are in operation to the important towns of adjoining districts such as Warangal, Vijayawada, Nalgonda and West Godavari.

SHUTTLE SERVICES

In order to provide efficient and convenient transportation to the commuters traveling on short distance routes and also to compete with the illicitly ply jeeps and steering autos, Khammam region is operating 59 buses on 17 routes as “Shuttle Services” on short distance routes originating from important towns to traffic generating points, mandal head quarters and built up areas.

FAIRS & FESTIVALS

Special buses will be operated to the temple town Bhadrachalam from all the corners of the District during the festival days such as “Vykunta Ekadasi” and “Sri Rama Navami” for the benefit of the pilgrims. In addition to this, special buses will be run to Lakshmipuram, Kudali, Annapureddipalli, Neeladri, Sri Ramagiri etc. during “Mahasivarathri” festival. Special buses in large number will be operated to “Medaram” of Warangal district, during Sammakka-Sarakka jathara which will be celebrated for every two years.

RYTHU BAZAAR SPECIALS

Rythu Bazaar specials are being run by Khammam, Kothagudem and Sathupalli depots to provide transportation facility to farmers to get Vegetables to the market.
