MECHANISED TRANSPORTATION


There are 46 revenue mandals and 1239 revenue villages in Khammam district, out of which 1029 revenue villagers are provided transportation facility and 75 villages are deemed to have been connected which are with in 2 Kms., distance from the main road. In the remaining 135 unconnected villages, 68 could not be connected because of no road, 60 villages are de-populated, 6 are identified as inaccessible villages and one village is submerged.

PASSENGER AMENITIES

In order to provide better amenities to the passengers Khammam region has provided 31 most modern bus stations with all facilities at Mandal headquarters and other important traffic generating points such as Khammam, Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam, Sathupalli, Madhira, Manuguru, Palair, Nelakondapalli, Bonakal, Karepalli, Yellandu,Wyra, Thallada, Kalluru, V M Banjar, Aswaraopeta, Dammapeta, Mandalapalli, Kukkunoor, Jamalapuram, Yerrupalem, Palawancha, Chandrugonda, Burgampahad, Dummugudem, Kunavaram, Cherla, Venkatapuram, Aswapuram, Bayyaram, Suraksha Bus station Manuguru and Pinapaka. Added to this 21 way side bus shelters are there at major villages and important traffic generating points.

CONCESSIONS

Khammam region is extending travel concessions to various sects of people such as students, employees, merchants, physically handicapped persons, journalists, freedom fighters, and un-employed youth for attending interviews. Added to this free travel facility is offered to the students below 12 years and girls upto 10th class. Khammam region is issuing annually 1.79 lakhs of such concessional passes amounting to Rs.4.00 crores per year.

PASSENGER FRIENDLY MEASURES

In order to regain the deflected traffic and to attract the passengers back into our fold, Khammam region has implemented the following passenger friendly schemes.

  • Promoting the sale of JET tickets and CAT cards by opening special counters at Bus stations, Prajasadassulu of Janmabhoomi Programmes.
  • Sale of reservation tickets by appointing ATB agents.
  • Telephone reservation facility.
  • Computerised reservation facility at Khammam bus station.
  • Appointing “Agents” to provide service to the commuters at their door steps.
  • Implementation of “Lucky Dip” scheme on low paying and highly infested illicit operation routes.

BRANDING BUSES


Some of the services operating on high frequency routes of the region have been branded as “CHINTRABHANU, RAMABANAM, APARAJITHA, SWARNANDHRA, COAL CITY EXPRESS, TRISHUL, STHAMBADRI EXPRESS” etc., to attract passengers.

TRAINING AND COUNSELLING

Crew are being trained by conducting exclusive classes to explain them about the financial position of the Corporation and about the need to rise to the occasion. Gate meetings are being organized regularly and crew are being explained about the need to inculcate curtious behaviour to respect the passengers. Further crash training programmes are conducted for the staff at regional and depot level. Out of 2,990 employees of Khammam region 2,662 are trained so far.

TICKET ISSUING MACHINES

Similarly 21 TIMs have been introduced and it is planned to introduce 18 more during this year.

COST REDUCTION

A part from taking austerity measures in controlling the cost, much stress is being laid on reducing the cost of main cost contributors such as personnel cost, power, tyres and tubes etc. Because of the continuous pursuance in this regard the total CPK of the region is reduced to 12.83.

SINGLE CREW SCHEDULES

In order to reduce the cost on personnel this region has introduced 68 single crew duties. Further it is planned to introduce 27 more single crew schedules by the end of year 2003-04. By reviewing the running times on long distance services, Khammam region has reduced 72 hours of over time per day there by saving an amount of Rs.96,000/-.
