INTRODUCTION There are (77) health and medical institutions including (56) Primary Health Centres functioning under the Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department. Six referral hospitals including the District Headquarters Hospital, Khammam are functioning under the administrative control of APVVP. |

FAMILY WELFARE PROGRAMME
The Family Planning Programme renamed as Family Welfare is implemented from 1970. The Programme is intended to reduce fertility as quickly as possible. Under the programme to achieve this goal through a strategy based on contraceptive targets and cash incentives to acceptors is provided. Under the Family Welfare Programme Family Planning Operations to control population growth and 1,92,586 sterilizations conducted in the district from 1995-96 to upto August, 2003. An amount of Rs.6.56 crores was spent for compensation to the acceptors etc., under the Family Planning Programme. Temporary Planning Methods are also implemented in the district. SUKHAPARIVARAM APSMP has given training to 441 ANMs in the district and they have conducted 3049 training sessions to the self help groups by motivation of 13898 couples for improvement under temporary family planning methods in the district. NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMME Under this Programme TT to pregnant women and vaccination to the children are given. Distribution of IFA tablets and other mother and child health activities also are implemented. NATIONAL BLINDNESS CONTROL PROGRAMME The cataract Blindness Control Project assisted by the World Bank is implemented in the state from 01.04.1994 to strengthen the existing NPCB. The Cataract operations are done under the National Programme for Blindness control. Non governmental organizations are also involved in the programme. Free glasses are given to those who have undergone cataract operations. Rs.92,65,083/- has been spent for free distribution of spectacles and other activities from the year 1995-96 to 2002-03. NATIONAL T.B. CONTROL PROGRAMME National T.B. Control Programme is introduced in 1962. The activities are viz., (i) Detecting as many T.B. cases as possible from among the out patients of General Health Institutions with symptoms. (ii) Treating them efficiently on out patient/domiciliary basis by giving priority to sputum postive cases and (iii) Vaccinating with BCG and susceptible population of 0-1 year. To implement these programme one Dist. T.B. Centre situated at Dist. Headquarters at Khammam. One additional Dist. T.B. Centre, Bhadrachalam is functioning in tribal area. ^ TOP |
