Every market committee has an officially nominated
body consisting of 14 members including the Chairman
and each Market Committee is has Secretary and supporting
staff.
Main activities of
market committees are as follows:
MARKET FEE:
The
Market Committees shall levy 1% of market fee on
any notified agriculture produce sold in the notified
area and collect the same from the purchasers. The
market fee income is being utilized for establishment
of market yards by providing infrastructure facilities.
Every year the Director of marketing fixes the market
fee targets to A.M.Cs.
RYTHU
BHANDU PATHAKAM:
The
Department of Marketing has introduced the scheme
of Rythu Bhandu Pathaam for the benefit of farming
community to prevent distress sales by providing
an advance not exceeding Rs.50,000 on stock of their
produce in the Agriculture Market Committee godowns
to the needy farmers without charging any interest
upto 3 months.
SALE
OF INPUTS:
All
Agriculture Market Committees in the districts are
implementing the sale of inputs i.e., seeds, fertilizers,
pesticides to the farmers on “NO LOSS- NO
PROFIT” basis.
During
the year 2002-04 Rs.37.96 lakhs worth of inputs
were supplied to the farmers.
FARMERS
TRAINING PROGRAMME:
All
Agriculture Market Committees have been conducting
farmers training programmes with the Co-ordination
of Agriculture Department to educate the farmers
on various cropping patterns.
LINK
ROADS:
During
the year 2002-04 the Govt. have sanctioned an amount
of Rs.4.54 crores to 13 AMCs to take up the link
road works as a measure of drought relief. 179 link
roads were sanctioned by the District Collector.
The executing agencies are Panchayat Raj and R&B
departments.
SOIL
TESTING LABORATORIES:
Soil
testing laboratories have been established at Khammam,
Sathupalli, Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam market yards
and functioning for the benefit of farmers.
CONSTRUCTION
WORKS:
A
separate market yard for cotton has been established
under AMC, Khammam with the assistance of TMC, Mumbai,
with an estimated cost of Rs.3.50 crores.
