PENSIONS

 

          With the changing socio-economic structure of our society coupled with incessant migration, especially of young men to urban geography, certain sections of population like elderly, handicapped, widow/widower and severely diseased persons are left alone at certain point during their life’s journey.   Someone has to hold the hand of such helpless persons in their hour of need. Moreover, modern technological innovations have rendered certain erstwhile occupations like handloom rather dormant.  It has adversely impacted the lot of traditional weavers.

 

 The broad scheme of Pensions to all such needy sections has been introduced in its widest scope by the present Government to cover all such families – and leave none.

 

Total estimated number of households in Khammam District as on 01.01.2009 is 7,25,198.  Government have distributed 2,43,709 pensions distributing an amount of Rs.570.554 Lakhs per month to all sections of society covering old aged persons, widows, disabled and handloom  weavers. It represents 33.61% of the total number of households.  Thus, all eligible families irrespective of their caste or community have been covered with pensions. The pension amount has been enhanced from Rs.75 to Rs.200 for old age pensions, widow, and weavers and Rs.500 for Physically handicapped persons respectively.

 

The concept of saturation coverage of all eligible beneficiaries has been fully achieved in the district. The overall picture of  Khammam district at a glance is given below:
